When addiction treatment providers, journalists, and government leaders sit around the same table, real change becomes possible. That is why we are so grateful to The Thaiger for their recent coverage of the Thai government's working session at Miracles Asia in Phuket.

A Meaningful Meeting on Our Phuket Campus
In September, Miracles Asia in Pa Khlok hosted a provincial working group to expand services and set national accreditation standards for rehabilitation facilities in Phuket. The meeting was chaired by the Phuket Vice Governor and attended by representatives from the Phuket Provincial Public Health Office and other key agencies, alongside our Director, Mark Heather.
During the session, officials reviewed Miracles Asia's status as an approved private rehabilitation center under the Narcotics Act and discussed our proposal to increase capacity from 20 to 32 treatment rooms. For our team, the meeting was about more than numbers. It was about how Phuket's rehab system can grow while protecting safety, quality, and compassionate care for every person who walks through our doors.
How Miracles Asia Is Growing Responsibly
The conversation at Miracles Asia highlighted several priorities that already guide our work in Phuket, Thailand:
- Growing capacity with care
We are exploring a modest increase in room capacity to welcome more clients without losing the small community feel that makes our program approachable and human. Any expansion is matched by investment in clinical staff, training, and support services, not just beds. - Strengthening our clinical program
Our focus remains on evidence-based therapies, trauma-informed care, and treatment that addresses both addiction and underlying mental health conditions. As national accreditation criteria are clarified, we are aligning our protocols and outcome measurement with these standards so that quality is clear and consistent. - Supporting long-term recovery
Treatment does not end at discharge. We are continually improving aftercare planning, virtual follow-ups, and local support networks so that clients have a realistic path to long-term recovery once they return home.
Government and Providers Working Together
The Thai government has made it clear that tackling the drug problem is a national priority, with a strategy that brings together prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation rather than punishment alone. The Ministry of Public Health operates a national system for monitoring drug treatment and rehabilitation, which helps guide policy and improve the quality of services across the country.
For those who would like to explore that work further, you can read more about Thailand's national drug treatment and rehabilitation strategy in this overview from the Ministry of Public Health (Thai government site, in English): Nong Bua Lam Phu, the White Province Model for drug rehabilitation and treatment.
Being chosen as the venue for this recent working group is a strong signal that private facilities like Miracles Asia play an essential role in that effort. We see it as an invitation to keep raising our own standards, to share what we have learned from years of treating addiction and co-occurring mental health challenges, and to listen carefully to the needs of public health partners and local communities.
Looking Ahead
We are proud of the recognition this coverage brings to our team, but we are even more encouraged by what it represents: a more coordinated and thoughtful approach to addiction treatment in Phuket and across Thailand.
To The Thaiger, thank you for shining a light on this work. To our partners in government and public health, thank you for your trust and collaboration. And to everyone considering treatment for themselves or someone they love, know that there is a growing network of people and institutions in Thailand committed to helping you find a safer, healthier way forward.
If you have questions about our program in Phuket or want to talk about whether Miracles Asia might be a good fit for you or a family member, our team is always here to listen and help you take the next step.
